Chickens roasting on an open fire

Technically, a Cornish game hen is roasting in my oven, but that just doesn't have the same ring to it.

My mandatory hw is done (I'll try to do some not-so-mandatory homework after dinner), my housework is done, and the windows are open so my apartment is airing out.

Grocery shopping today was fun, especially at Ralph's where I paid $20 and when I got my receipt it said, "Verified Savings: $16.66" - I love saving money! And really, the only thing I didn't "need" were those mandarin oranges.

Yesterday I went to IKEA again and got that comforter cover - only it was $20 instead of $15 (how annoying) and now that it's on my bed it doesn't look quite right. Of course, my down blanket is not a full comforter, maybe it'll look better when I can afford a full comforter to put in it.

I finally got around to making the Harvard beets - and they're still not quite right. I think I have to use less water. Maybe a half-teaspoon more cornstarch or doubling the beets. I have to keep experimenting, I think.

So dinner tonight is garlic roast game hen, roast potato, Brussels sprouts, broccoli, and Harvard beets. This eating healthily thing is a lot of work....and so, so worth it.

On Chopped Champions right now their dessert ingredients are Crema, taco shells, bosc pears, and red curry paste.
I would blend the taco shells and use them to make corn crepes with red curried marscapone cheese and the pears with a crema-caramel sauce.
They're doing nothing like that. I'm sure I would win...lol...
I'm sure you can see that I use way too much of my spare time watching Food Network. But I love food, and that's all there is to it!

I also got some beet juice on my khaki clamdiggers which really sucks, but I'll soak the spot in cold water tonight and put some of that stain stick on it. I suppose if worst comes to worst I can throw some rhinestones on there in a little pattern. I really need to get an apron but of course the one time I WANT to find aprons at Stein Mart they don't have them. Maybe I'll have to suck it up and order one off of Amazon. They have some GORGEOUS ones on there - all cutesy and pink and frilly (why do I like them? How did that happen?!) but they're ridiculously expensive (I am NOT spending $35 on an apron!) so I'll probably get one of those $10 ones.

I forget how it happened, but we were talking about cooking last Thursday in Prosemimar and I was talking about how I cooked SO much food last Thanksgiving because I just love cooking, and a couple of the boys were like, "Uh, so next year we can help you with the leftovers, right?" I thought it was totally funny. Mom keeps telling me to hold "easy-peasy" cooking classes for college-age boys and I can see that she's right, but I'd never have the time or the equipment or anything like that for that kind of undertaking.

Alright, it's time to turn the heat down and start basting that game hen. Happy Sunday!
