Settling in: Tuesday

Tuesday morning I woke up pretty grumpy after sleeping on the floor, but a breakfast of yoghurt and chocolate milk restored my equilibrium.

The men came to deliver the bed and it was amazing to see the way they hauled the mattress and the box-spring up the stairs with seemingly no effort and assembled the frame in seconds. That was definitely the best part of the move - I love that someone ELSE did the work!

We went to Target twice and WalMart once, and ended up the day at IKEA where we found that the dining set I wanted was only available in the larger, four-chair style at that branch. There was a very helpful assistant who found the two-chair style for us at another branch, and wrote down everything we needed to get it at the other store.

During the course of the day we ended up with three end tables, a bookcase, a desk, a toaster, a microwave, and two trashcans.

We wanted to go out to a nice restaurant, so we drove around a bit, but I got so paranoid about being lost I insisted we go back to the apartment and get the GPS I'd forgotten to bring earlier. Then I picked a random Mexican restaurant - my GPS has this amazing "points of interest" feature where you can spell a place you want to go without knowing the address, or tell it you want entertainment, shopping or food, and then get to pick a place from a list - and we drove to find that it was in a really shady neighborhood. So we chose a more expensive one from the list (we knew it was expensive from the location) only to find out that it closed at 10 and we got there at 9:45.

Frustrated and hungry we went to Carl's Jr, which turned out to be amazing. Mom ordered a carne asada burrito, and I got a special chickenburger, and we got an order of crispy burritos and guacamole to share. We drove home before we ate, and those first bites were SO good. There's just something about fasting from noon to eleven pm that makes you the kind of hungry where anything will taste good. And when the food tastes great to begin with, then it tastes FANTASTIC. I think the crispy burritos were best, but my chickenburger was great too.

We tried to assemble the bookcase and the desk after dinner, but we simply couldn't figure out how to do it, so we gave up and went to bed.
